Spam - tell me your thoughts before I kill MIL

She collects my DDs from school 3 days a week whilst I work, which is great, I do appreciate it etc. They have a hot school dinner on those days so she only needs to make them a snack/light dinner after school. I make sure there are loads of baked potatoes, beans, cheese, nice bread, tuna, ham etc etc so she can take her pick out of a reasonably healthy bunch of stuff. I come home tonight and there is a lump of stinking spam in the kitchen that she brought over and the girls are going mad about it, saying its the most wonderful thing ever .

We used to get spam fritters (round, very red spam) with mash & tinned toms at school - was one of my favourite school diners

Unless you buy 'nice ham' the ingredients of spam and ham look about the same to me.

In fact I'd eat spam over this ham any day

They have whole branded SPAM restaurants in the Phillipines, it can't be that bad can it? I'd examine a tin in the supermarket and if there are any additives or salt levels etc that you really object to then raise it with her but if its not going to make your teeth curl up everytime they have it and they aren't having it every day I would leave well alone. Would you object to them having something like cornbeef hash? I think in some respects when your parents look after your children you often have to bite your tongue when they do things you really don't approve of (I find myself doing this a lot). They like to feel like they have some input/control and they are convinced they know best.

....baked beans and spam spam spam luverly spam

we all survived it.

I don't quite know how though.

Could be worse. My MIL kept buying nutella when we visited DD and sending the nearly full jar home and of course I had to eat the fat/sugar mix to keep it from poor DD....

Ok, I've been out-voted, you spam freaks . I'm not so tired today, and feeling more reasonable. I'm actually a bit ashamed that I threw it all in the bin. MIL will be looking for it tonight. I'm sure the DD's will fill her in on exactly what mum thought of it.

My DDs do it crap now and then but I do have a real problem with cheap nasty meat or meat products. I'd rather they ate no meat at all than cheap meat.
