Am getting a complex now. Has anyone made a cake from this book that has been nice?
So far have made an apple cake-too squidy-thought my fault, too many apples or something.
A cake with polenta and peaches that had a really unpleasant texture-gritty like eating sand. Again I though my fault wrong kind of polenta.
Tonight have made "old fashioned chocolate cake" Followed recipe to the letter, even leaving out eggs to room temp (never done that in my life), weighed out to the last g and measured teaspoons with a special measure. Have produced 2 pleasant smelling pancakes about 1.5 cm thick
PAH!!!! am very cross now
But will ice them and eat anyway as icing actually very tasty!

I read that one of the recipes (a cake one?) was wrong and she's been getting a lot of flak for it. Probably read it in The Guardian. I think they are re-printing subsequent copies. I've got the Domestic Goddess book and, tbh, haven't cooked anything out of it.

Yes there was a problem witha chocolate cake. Should not have butter but method states "cream butter and sugar". Butter not in ingredients list though. Think I saw it in The Times.
Most Domestic Goddess recipes work out okay, perhaps you have been unlucky in your choice. Have decided not to get this one as recipes seem rather familiar - I think I read too many foodie things.

thanks but different cake-so no excuse!
Thats the chocolate version of her clementine cake (which is lovely in the original form)
This was bog standard chocolate cake.
Bonus is that being so flat, there is a vast amount of icing to cake so should taste good anyway!

Miggy, was it the choc cake with the sour cream that you made? I saw the recipe in a sunday paper a couple of weeks back and tried it. Like you say, flat as a pancake - sooo disappointed and thought it was me but obviously not. Seems funny that she uses plain flour in it and not that much baking powder. Icing's nice though!!
