Snacks in the car

DD is 6, and is in school from 7:45am to 3:00pm with her lunch break at 10:45. By the time school is out, she is ravenous and grumpy. I've never been a fan of eating in the car. Here is my pro/con list regarding her request (whiny demand) that I bring a snack when picking up.

For the snack:
It's been hours since lunch
She's more enjoyable when when shes not hungry

Against the snack:
I hate finding old food under her booster
It's less than ten minute drive home

Is it unreasonable to ask her to wait until we get home? And does anyone else think 10:45 is an utterly ridiculous time to give lunch?

10.45 for lunch? you sure you've got that right and it's not morning break?

where do you live Bananapudding? not in the UK?

fireflyfairy2 · 27/11/2007 15:56

Are you sure that's not morning break & then lunch may be at 12.30 or something??

Either way I wouldn't give her a snack in the car if home is just 10 minutes away

10:45 is definetely lunch, I've joined her on special occasions. Plus, her teacher finds the timing idiotic as well and calls it their "brunch". The other stupid thing: school gets out at 3pm and they don't get a playground break until 2:45! The reasoning is to keep them out of the midday heat, but right now the daily highs are 75F and actually would be quite nice for them. In September when it's 110F I could understand it.

We're in the US, in Texas.

The more I think about her break times the more irritated i feel.

I'm leaning towards saying no to snacks unless running errands after school.

I think she can wait ten minutes for a snack.

Cant she eat a cereal bar or banana on the way to the car?

what about a shut cup of milk to stave off the whines
no mess and all happy
