Savoury recipe to feed 8+

Assuming I don't give birth this afternoon (fat chance) I have just opened my diary and realised that this evening is the annual dinner for the sailing club parents thing.....

Tis posh and I am apparently expected to bring along a plate of something to serve roughly 8.

I need something impressive (ohhh yes, am not going to have the chic maman fraternity delicately nibbling my offering and exchanging raised eyebrow glances) and easy. Has to be savoury and not another quiche or couscous salad.

Plerase help me keep up with the Duponts. What should I take. Recipes/ideas please!

I was goign to say chili with rice/wedges/sour cream etc but its not MASSIVELY impressive is it.

Could you just do a big roast dinner?

ggglimpopo · 27/11/2007 13:56

No, it is at someones house. Everyone has to take a dish. I apparently have to take something savoury.....

is this site any help?

mishymoo · 27/11/2007 14:13

should have asked - is it finger food or 'proper' food?

ggglimpopo · 27/11/2007 14:16

Thank you mishy moo - no it is a proper main course dish, either hot or cold.....

can you do a coq au vin or soemthing similar

can you not pretend to go into labour

mishymoo · 27/11/2007 14:21

ok - what about this? Quick and easy to cook and in this weather, a curry will go down really well!

ggglimpopo · 27/11/2007 14:21

I cannot feed coq au vin to the french!

Am seriously considering giving birth or flouncing if no one comes up with a stupendous, quick, easy and impressive recipe for me....

Vegetarian ok?

What about an aubergine, cheese and potato bake?

ggglimpopo · 27/11/2007 14:42

No, needs to be meat or fish. Have no fish in house so needs to be meat -butcher two mins away if needs be.

mishymoo · 27/11/2007 14:42

Nope haven't tried it but do make something similar but I use a paste instead of fresh spices. It is really tasty - just be careful with the chilli (unless you WANT to go into labour early??)!

Good luck!

CountessDracula · 27/11/2007 14:43

Does it have to be hot?
