What do you use the fresh mint for, other than mint sauce?

I love the flavour of mint and grow it quite successfully in the garden but apart from a couple of handfuls a year for mint sauce, I never use it.

What other ways are you all using it please?

Large cous cous salad with Feta and mint, fresh coriander, maybe basil too. Chuck in some diced red onion, cucumber, asparagus spears? Anything really.

QwertyGirly · 14/06/2021 13:58

Mojito!

HotToddyColdSauvignon · 14/06/2021 13:58

Tzatsiki - finely chopped mint (lots of it), grated garlic, lemon, Greek yoghurt and grated or thinly diced cucumber

Add to parsley and coriander and combine with roasted veg into couscous

Chopped finely and frozen to add to cocktails like mojitos

Stuffed into chicken breasts with feta and pomegranate molasses

Have never used mint to make mint sauce Grin

Fresh mojitos are fabulous.

To garnish pimms with strawberry and cucumber

Wash very well and steep it for mint tea (I say wash it very well because there's something even more disgusting about ingesting a drowned, boiled bug than there is about accidentally eating a live one)

Fresh mint tea and Vietnamese cooking

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 14/06/2021 14:03

Raita

I agree with a PP that feta and mint in a salad is a lovely combination. I do a kind of salady thing with beetroot, feta, green lentils and walnuts and sprinkle loads of mint on top. Delicious!

Plexie · 14/06/2021 14:05

Drink it - peppermint tea (or "tisane", if I'm channelling my inner Poirot). I find nipping out and discarding the youngest tips before rinsing well reduces the bugs ending up in your drink. Unless you want the extra protein...

And while you drink it you can smugly think that it would cost at least £3 in a cafe.

purplecorkheart · 14/06/2021 14:06

I put it along with slices of lime in water.

The mint yogurt in this recipe - a lovely fresh accompaniment to rose harissa (or other) roast veg

One of my absolute favourites is tabbouleh (Lots of recipes online.) It never lasts long in our house. Another idea: dry fry some pine nuts and stir into cooked rice with peas or broad beans and mint. Serve as an accompaniment or add some butter beans for a complete meal.

purplesequins · 14/06/2021 14:07

fresh mint tea
or make cordial with it to add to gin with sparkly water

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 14/06/2021 14:07

Spanakopita
Yy mojitos!

Yesterday I marinaded lamb leg steaks in lemon juice, olive oil and chopped mint before bbq-ing and that was very popular.

ODFOx · 14/06/2021 14:07

I poach it with sugar make a minty syrup which is delicious chilled and poured over cucumber or melon.
It's one of the main herbs in my moussaka.
It's lovely chopped over strawberries.
My Granny always added some to the water when cooking new potatoes, and of course for peas.

Warmduscher · 14/06/2021 14:07

Middle Eastern food mostly.

ViperAtTheGatesOfDawn · 14/06/2021 14:08

Raita usually.

Bunch each of mint and coriander, dollop of yoghurt and if I have them, lime, garlic and chilli, blended until smooth.

Although the title suggests otherwise, there’s fresh mint in this. It’s nice this time of year with salad

FoofOfTheWalkingDead · 14/06/2021 14:09

I use mint along with other fresh herbs like Dill, Tarragon, Basil, Parsley and Coriander and chop them all up together to add to a green salad. You can make a lovely herby vinaigrette like this too.
You could also add a bit of mint when you're boiling new potatoes.

BarbaraPapa · 14/06/2021 14:09

In hot weather I keep a big water jug on my desk all day, with 2/3 stems of mint and sliced cucumber - makes it so much more refreshing somehow.

ValerieMorghulis · 14/06/2021 14:09

Pea and mint soup
Halloumi with peaches and mint
Pimm’s
Potato salad

I love mint - it’s so easy to grow and so hard to kill!

Soontobe60 · 14/06/2021 14:11

Green leafy salad with chopped up mint
New potatoes
Courgette ribbons, petit pois, and mange tout briefly boiled with a warm dressing of chopped mint, garlic and olive oil. Delish!

BertieBotts · 14/06/2021 14:12

In a smoothie with strawberry ice cream, watermelon and milk. It would probably go well with raspberries too.

As peppermint tea (just literally put a handful in a mug, pour over boiling water). Good point about washing it :o

In a bottle of water that I then freeze - makes a really refreshing drink for hot days - take to school/work/day out frozen, drink as it defrosts.

missmoz · 14/06/2021 14:15

I chuck it in pesto with any other herbs and salad I have, as long as there's some basil in there.

I've just bought some mint to make this. No idea if it's any good though...
