I have a 19 month old baby who is not fussy as such, but eats in tiny quantities.
On a good day, he'll have - half a weetabix with milk,
six bites of pasta and brocolli, vanilla yoghurt,
6 bites of a blueberry muffin,
half a little bowl of chicken casserole with potatoes and carrots.

He used to eat an actual plateful of food, but hasn't done for about 4 months. Still drinks milk though. When he's sick, he won't eat a thing.

it gets close, really, in fact ours goes underneath. unless you have an unusually low table, of course. and if for some reason you do, what about one of these? lots of mums on my BLW website rave about it.

AitchTwoOh · 21/11/2007 22:12

c'mon, measure your table height and i'll check it against our highchair. let's settle this once and for all.

(unless you just want the tripp-trapp? which i think is bonkers but loads of people like them... you know tchibo and babydan do a good knock off?)

mummymagic · 21/11/2007 22:13

Oh yes, the antilop is fab - you don't have to have the tray and they do go right up against/under the table!

(although i do LOVE our tripp trapp)

mummymagic · 21/11/2007 22:14

The tripp trapp - its a design classic doncha know

Habbibu · 21/11/2007 22:17

BabyHab is in an antilop, with tray, and we just pull it near to the table - she sits at the corner between us. And actually, sometimes I just put all our food on her tray (if it's just me and her), and sit on a chair by her and we share.

AitchTwoOh · 21/11/2007 22:17

it is fab, mm, i can see that. but it's SO expensive and all that guff about 'growing with the child' just means that parents get suckered into buying another one for no 2 rather than just buying a bloody long-legged chair for £20 from ikea.

AitchTwoOh · 21/11/2007 22:18

actually that's right, hab, i did use the tray for a good while with dd because she needed the lip of it to help 'catch' her food, iykwim? she was right beside us, i don't think she felt at all left out.

Habbibu · 21/11/2007 22:18

How did first day back go, Starlight?

SM, I'm sorry if I was a bit abrupt. I have a poorly DS1 and have been posting a bit snippily

I do hope you read the book. I really, really want you to know that a feisty one-year-old is as a mere butterfly compared to a feisty three-year-old and the power struggles you're having with him now (and they are, however you dress it up - you wanted him to eat avocado, so he did, albeit several hours and some tears later) will be a great deal more prolonged and if you ease off now and, and this is the key, only offer healthy food, he won't eat jam sandwiches forever.

It's making food an issue in any kind of way that's the problem, imo and ime. I know several toddlers who've had their arms held down whilst food's jabbed at their mouths and they're put on naughty steps mid-meal when they won't eat what their parents think is a reasonable amount of food - and they started out doing what you're doing now - talking about clean plates to 1yos and not giving puddings (even fruit or yoghurt) without finishing savoury food.

The Ikea highchair's fab, btw, as is the TT. Cushions get a bit mucky on the TT though.

AitchTwoOh · 21/11/2007 22:22

tbh if you've an ikea near you, you could just take it back if it doesn't fit. (although i'd pass it along to granny for visits). but i think you secretly want a tripp-trapp, you old design queen.

mummymagic · 21/11/2007 22:22

la la la not listening Aitch, I love my Tripp Trapp, it is all nice and cherrywood and blue and looks good in our living room where our table is, and makes me get to pretend i am all islington yummy mummy-ish so la la la la la

Mrsei25 · 21/11/2007 22:22

hi i have been lurking on this thread for a the past few days and i felt the need to put in my opinion!!
i think that all this negativity being aimed at starlight is/was entirely unnecessary!! the way i read her post was that she was trying to show her DS that he basically had the choice to eat what he was given or not. that is how i am with my DD. she can be very difficult with her food when she wants to be and has been that way since she was about 10 months old (she is 22 months now) i think that when it comes to being an assertive parent it is a battle of wills against an equally assertive child- this trait is visable from around 2-4 months imo. my daughter was BF until 6 months and she decided this herself much to my dissappointment- this is one 'battle' i obviously couldnt win. she simply refused to BF and took her EBM from a bottle from then on.
she now has for the past year or so decided that she wont eat the so called healthy options unless she has absolutely no other choice. i dont offer her another choice and so i seemingly 'win' as you seem to put it.
i think it is not about winning but about making sure the child gets the nutrition that they need as it is 'for their own good'
dont get me wrong she gets the odd treat and easier made meals like ravioli if there isnt time for a 'battle' but mostly i like to try and keep that to a minimum when she is in my care (obv i cant 100% control what she eats when in the childminders or staying with family!!)
it just saddens me to see somebody asking for advice or offering their opinion just for the so called support network to pounce on them like a pack of wolves. not very supportive imo!!

don't bother with cushions - they're not necessary. and then it's only about £130. bargain.

hunkermunker · 21/11/2007 22:23

Have you got kitchen/dining chairs? DS2 has a booster at his grandparents' that goes on an old dining chair - an Argos one. It's this one. Handily portable too.

mummymagic · 21/11/2007 22:25

Mrsei25, but if ALL her options are healthy then both of you 'win', eh?

I've got two TTs

Got mine from Back In Action, quoting some Lullabys price which got me an extra fiver off the price. I love them [unashamed]

hunkermunker · 21/11/2007 22:27

And I'd just like to offer up DS2 to anybody who thinks they have a feisty, independent child Enjoy!

AitchTwoOh · 21/11/2007 22:27

we've rather moved on, mrsei25...

Habbibu · 21/11/2007 22:28

Mrsei - I think "pack of wolves" is harsh and uncalled for. I disagree profoundly and am quite shocked by what you've said about children being "assertive" at 2-4 months. Starlight did not initially post for support - she responded to another post. You have not posted for support. How would you like me to respond to what you've said?

ScottishMummy · 21/11/2007 22:28

lol i am a North London mummy and i have a stokke tripp trapp in walnut wood " same as this -mwah mwah" and i love it, fits in nicely to other decor, robust, aesthetic pleasing classic

AitchTwoOh · 21/11/2007 22:28

two, hunker? you muppet...
