And does it have to be nice newly opened rose or can I use the stuff that's been sitting out for a month 'cos I don't like it?

no, i don;t think it will be really bad, rose is not as heavy and flavoursome as red wine, but i don;t thikn it will be awful at all !

DrNortherner · 18/11/2007 13:57

Just asked my dh a chef who was horrified at the thought!!!!

colditz · 18/11/2007 15:27

I have tasted it.

It's not very nice, to be honest. Would have been ok with pork I think, but it's a bit too acidic for beef.

Shame because it was a nice shin of beef!

but is it edible?

colditz · 18/11/2007 15:31

not yet, no. It needs a couple of hours, to be honest.

if oyu heated it on the hob so it was really bubbling, do you thikn it would cook off the alcohol or is it too late?

colditz · 18/11/2007 15:41

I already did that to start it off - it's not the alcohol I can taste. i think it will mellow out - although I think I have overloaded it with celery too

It will be fine with dumplings and roasties.

It will be ok, probably not stunning but fine. The problem is probably that it was old and not nice to begin with tbh

lulumama · 18/11/2007 15:46

oh dear

i hate it when that happens, you make something lovely, tweak it, and then it is not half as good as you expect...

i;m sure it will be just fine in the end
