Right then, Mr and Mrs Bagpuss are holding a small dinner party for friends, what can I cook them? They are vegetarian.

One is rather fond of mushrooms and aubergines as I recall, but as I haven't cooked for them since about 2003 I would really appreciate some ideas for something other than stuffed mushrooms followed by some sort of Italian aubergine and mozzarella bake (DH turned his nose up at the thought of this). Also, DH is a real meat eater and gets quite grumpy at the thought of vegetables so I need to cook something that is substantial enough to satisfy his appetite too. Help!

Ring from M&S - they have lots (can you tell btw that I was only looking at the accessories as ds2 spent the whole time asleep in his pushchair?).

Eyeliner, not sure really, was going to go to John Lewis and see what they had.

I am wearing my new sweater dress (charcoal grey, GAP) with my new good tights and beads.

Right, back to the food. DH has OK'd the following:

Thai Butternut Squash Soup served with bread (whatever looks interesting and nice in Waitrose)

Nigel Slater's Mushroom Lasagne served with a green salad

Nigel Slater's Chocolate Brownies served with Vanilla Ice Cream

Am hoping that this will be easy enough to do in advance and then heat up/cook when needed.

Please feel free to comment and help with any fine tuning (outfit/accessories or food) as needed .

Cod, have just had a quick read through of the Good Houskeeping - 'tis fab I agree. Liked the Aubergine Curry and the menu planner at the back is good too.
