I've just realised that the square xmas cake that I've got in the oven will not fit in the round tin that I've got to store it in [stupid emoticon]. I don't think that I've got any other air tight container.

Will my cake be completely buggered if I don't put it in a tin tonight? Should I cut the corners off and have a hexagonal cake? Any better ideas?

I think it will be fine if you wrap it in greaseproof paper and then clingfilm.

Agree with CCC. And/or tin foil. Just keep the air off it anyway you can til you can get a new box. Your cake will be fine.Feed it with brandy/whisky for extra moisture.
