Help! Beans in a slow cooker

I have just tried to make a cassoulet type dish in my slow cooker. Soaked the Haricot beans over night. Drained and put the beans straight in the pot with chicken and other ingredients. Five hours later The beans are still hard. What did I do wrong? What should I do next time?

They need boiling for about 40 minutes before you put them in a slow cooker, unfortunately. Intense heat and lots of water is the only way to soften them. And did you add salt? - as this prevent water from entering them. Never mind...

buy tinned next time, then you can just chuck em in

Thank you for the tips. I'm going to give it one more go with 40 mins boil. Then convert to tins if its doesn't work. 40mins boil is not the right idea for a slow cooker as you all know. Salt I didn't think of that.
My mum goes nuts when I used tinned. She goes on about the flavour not being right.
