My recipe is similar to Delia's but without the candied peel and with a sprinkling of mixed spice at the same time as the raisins.

My father's wife does it with brioche and cream and it is delicious but I daren't think how fattening!

I do mine with brioche & cream too.

Sometimes I spread the brioche with marmalade, and slosh the merest dod of whisky into the custard.

It's also nice with apricot jam spread on the lower pieces of bread, and chopped fudge scattered with the fruit.

I squeeze in the calories any way I can!

Oooh, and bitter dark chocolate too.
