I buy this in a little pot from the supermarket and the children love eating it as it comes. Is it bad for them? They call it batteries and would eat loads if allowed too.

it's just lemon/orange peel soaked in sugar syrup and dried
no worse than sweets

NAB3 · 16/10/2007 17:34

They don't have sweets.

Sounds like it is not so great then?

well, it's sugary
probably no worse than raisins or fruit leather gram for gram

but def a treat

Okay, thank you.

They love it and being fruit it is easy to get swayed by thinking it must be okay. They love all dried fruit.

you're talking to the woman who is trying to convince herself that glace cherries are one of her 5 a day...

Now they are something else my kids would love! I had heard they were trying to make them with good red dye rather than bad red dye.

Mrs Badger OMG! I have just made your shortbread and it is amazing!!!! Thank you. I also put a few blueberries on the top before cooking it, anything to get the little one eating fruit. It isn't going to last long.........

oh I take no credit for it

when my mother was newly married she went scouting for recipes for my shortbread-loving father and got this one from her vicar's wife, who'd eaten said shortbread in a cafe in the Lake District when she was newly married and had asked them for the recipe.

It has won me men in the past , and was the top request in care packages for friends in the Navy for many years.
