Thinking of asking for one for christmas a present. Is this a silly idea?

Thanks!

Panasonic.

Panasonic

Yep Panasonic. But get one with an interrupt function. I have lost so much bread to power cuts. they don't restart automatically and it's completely buggered if the power stops for even a second!

Also get one with a removable paddle for cleaning - I had a Morphy Richards one and the paddle didn't come out urrrgggh.

White ones are cheaper than silver for some reason but work the same.

Ask for bread mixes as well - that way you will be guaranteed of getting a few successful loaves in your first week of use, instead of six thousand house bricks that even the birds will ignore.

Panasonic - a bit more expensive than some on the market, but I haven't had a duff loaf from it yet.

panasonic with nut/raisin/seed dispenser

This seems to be a monthly thread and the 10-1 favourite is Panasonic. Provided you have room for one it is the most robust make and produces the best bread. Choose the version with the nut dispenser if you think you are ever likely to make breads with fruit/nuts/seeds (if you don't have this these ingredients can get a bit mashed up during kneading and hard nuts etc can scratch the non stick surface). It is great to come down in the morning to a fresh loaf of bread - with the lovely smell of new baked bread to wake you up!

Panasonic. Ours is still working perfectly after almost daily use for about 8 years.

We virtually never buy bread nowadays - unless it's occasional treat stuff like croissants.

OOOoooh, how exciting, was hoping that there would be an outright winner. Am thinking this one. Good tip about nuts and seeds dispenser.

Thanks all.

I've recently bought that one Beenleigh - it's fantastic. Have made loads of different loaves already, all have worked really well.

Should warn you though - it's the size of a house! You'll be needing an extension to store it

I'm all excited now! I bought that one 2 weeks ago and have been making fab bread daily ever since! Apparently Panasonic are the only ones to have.

Ds1 made the malted loaf recipe (includes malt extract you buy from the chemist). That was YUM!!
