Does anyone have any suitable designs for a 1st birthday cake for my son??? All suggestions welcome.

I made a Hickory Dickory Dock cake for DS1's first birthday - an obling cake with triangle bot on top and iced in choc butter icing with a clock face in fondant and some sugar mice.

or Cake shops would be able to lend you a tin in the shape of a 1 which might be good?

My DS wasn't that keen on cake at 1 so I made a huge pile of brownies, chocolate crispies, mini muffins etc and put a big candle on the top - something for everyone

I made a teddy bear for dd1, very easy. Think I morphed it into La La from TTs for dd2

Just bake a choccie cake and cut into pieces, you might find a template on the internet somewhere - if not, make it up or buy a book (you'll use it again and again) and then sandwich pieces together with choc buttercream and cover with same - I piped it so it looked like fur. Then you get some sugarpaste and colour it in bright colours for eyes, nose, bow tie and buttons.

My DD's 1st birthday cake is currently on my profile - but TBH that was as demanded by DS (almost 5) rather than chosen to be appropriate - You could hire a "1" shaped tin (should only cost £3-£4) and decorate as you feel inclined... let's face it, it is for the adults and the photos - DD was much more interested in the mini fairy cakes I made than in "her" cake!

I hired a teddy shaped tin from a cake shop (50p per day), made a teddy shped cake, iced it with choc buttercream, buttons for paws, flake fro fur etc. Actually, that was his 2nd b'day - the first was a duck on a duckpond...I made a sponge flan case, iced the centre with blue buttercream, made patches of reeds with angelica and put pale choc buttercram round the edge, and attempted to make a sponge duck to swim on top. People kept whispering 'what is it?' to each other.

Make a round cake, ice it with white roll-out, roll out some red, cut it into a big 1 shape, plonk in middle with one candle, put smarties round the edge - it will look lovely, and v smart.
