Help needed quickly for dumplings!

I've got a recipe for dumplings that doesn't involve suet, it uses plain flour and baking powder, but when I moved at the weekend I chucked out my probably out of date baking powder. Can I use SR flour instead? I have bicarb of soda if that helps! Or am I going to have to venture to the corner shop to see if they have any baking powder?

I always use 8 oz of SR flour

and

4 oz of suet

mix with cold water

not sure if that helps your recipe though

I thought self raising flour was the same as plain flour + baking powder. Give it a go. How wrong can dumplings go???

My dumplings used to be perfect.

I don't have suet, and don't really want to use it, but thanks for the recipe hama. This is the recipe I tore out of a mag:

250g plain flour
1tsp salt
2 tsps baking powder
2 tbsp olive oil
fresh herbs
150ml milk

250g plain flour + 2tsp baking powder = 250g SR flour

HTH

Now why don't they just say SR flour then?! Thanks twig, I'll give it a go (famous last words peaches...)

Soo want dumplings. Sooooo can't be bothered to go to the shop. Haven't got ingredients to hand.

Bumper - how were the dumplings? I would prefer to make them without suet as well, so I'm curious to see how that recipe was.
