Ooh toothyboy, marvellous idea. I will make DS2 some star shaped sandwiches tomorrow, he might notice them then! I'm a bit annoyed that DS (who started full time school last Monday) obviously doesn't have anyone checking what he does or doesn't eat/drink at lunchtimes! He always comes home with his sandwich and almost never has a drink.

Today he had cheese spread sandwiches (butter sandwiches as far as he is concerned, but what he doesn't know won't hurt him...)

small yoghurt

few mini sausages

smoothie carton

milk (which he asked to have)

He did actually drink the smoothie and the milk. Won't eat fruit...I have a fussy boy

My DS2 will be eating a hot meal at School every day for at least the next term as very fortunately our local authority is part of a trial scheme offering free lunches to younger children which is fab as the lunches at my DSs School are really quite good. Otherwise they don't have a School meal every day because I often struggle to find £3.00 cash every day and they like a packed lunch sometimes.

dinny · 08/10/2007 22:09

our school lunches are fab and healthy and homemade and affordable (1.50 a day) - feel v guilty have stopped them, actually

Cheese and pickle sandwich
raw carrots and mange tout
apple
slice of malt loaf

shrooms · 08/10/2007 22:19

Hehe thanks Dinny!

They're really easy - just spelt flour, olive oil, water, and if you want something a little softer, potato/rice flour.
Mix well and leave to rest for an hour. THen roll out rounds nice and thin, and cook a min each side on a dry pan. Keep covered with a damp teatowel to keep soft.
I roll them up with houmous and grated carrot.

dinny · 08/10/2007 22:20

oooh , mmmm, thanks for that!

so how much drink do your dc drink in school. Mine mostly come home with their drink bottles almost full, but I do know that they get a carton of milk in the morning and ds gets a drink in the afternoon in playgroup.

Chicken tikka slices in pitta
Flapjack cake
Tub of red grapes and cut apple
Apple juice

Plus apple or cereal bar for snack and bottle of water.

Sometimes if I'm in a rush I make then a chocolate spread sandwich .

If I have more time I'll make wraps; either tuna, ham of chicken plus salad. DD2 likes parmesan cheese with her ham wraps.

Friends dd likes small pots of humus and veggie dips.

shrooms · 08/10/2007 22:28

My kids are like me... they drink like fish! They are active though, so they lose alot.
And then demand salt on their dinner

LongDeadMotherofHarryP · 08/10/2007 22:29

Today:
Brown bread (home made) sandwich (large)filled with tuna/ham
Sticks of cucumber and pepper
Satsuma, pumpkin seeds, dried fruit medley of apricots, black cherries, cinnamon coated cranberries, strawberries, raisins.
Water
Tomorrow (been shopping now!):
Brown bread (soya and linseed) sandwich (medium size)filled with tuna/ham
Mini hard boiled eggs (quail)
Mini cooked sausages
Sticks of cucumber, carrot and pepper, crunchy lettuce leaf
Satsuma, pumpkin seeds, dried fruit medley of apricots, black cherries, cinnamon coated cranberries, strawberries, figs and raisins.
Apple or orange juice

WotzNow · 08/10/2007 22:30

No butter or spread on the bread, they hate it. I think that's why they like wraps so much.

dinny · 08/10/2007 22:31

Londeadmother - one word

WOW!

LongDeadMotherofHarryP · 08/10/2007 22:36

Scareyplaice - mine also like cold pasta with veg in (plus fork!). I don't do rice in lunchboxes because I read somewhere that cooling rice can easily breed nasty bacteria.

pollywollydooooooooodle · 08/10/2007 22:37

ooh longdeadmother, can you do my lunch!

WotzNow · 08/10/2007 22:37

Yes pasta with stir through sauce. Chilled from night before.
Agree about the rice, wouldn't do that either.

LongDeadMotherofHarryP · 08/10/2007 22:38

Dinny - I have hungry monsters! And they are very scary if I haven't delivered the goods -they'll still eat it but they give me feedback on how things could be better or if I put too much in I get big anger as it means they get less time to play!

WotzNow · 08/10/2007 22:38

longdeadmother do quails eggs cost more than average hen free range? Would never have thought of that.

LongDeadMotherofHarryP · 08/10/2007 22:41

WotzNow - I'll have to check my receipt another time as my toddler ran off with it. You could check it on the Waitrose online website. You get 12 little eggs to a packet - they boil in a matter of minutes and my kids love them. They are also very pretty.

crunchie · 08/10/2007 22:43

dh did it, so I have no idea

MrsSeanSlater · 08/10/2007 22:47

DS1 will be having hot pasta with pesto tomorrow, with a yoghurt pouch and grapes.

MrsSeanSlater · 08/10/2007 22:49

He takes hot food to school in one of these.
