Is it true that adding a pinch of sugar into the water when boiling sprouts makes them less bitter??

NOTHING improves the vile sprout

(don't know, sorry, worth a try though!)

ScaryMonsterStories · 06/10/2007 16:51

The people that really really do not like sprouts and find them bitter is genetic

Nothing can change that

Sugar may help for people that are more in the 'not keen' category

they're meant to be bitter - that's how I like 'em !!

aDad · 06/10/2007 16:54

I heard the same as SMS, it's in your genes if you find them bitter.

To me they are like sweet nectar. Honestly i have always loved them.

MaryAnnSingletomb · 06/10/2007 16:55

Yes, I heard the genetic thing - I've always loved them,as have my family and dh loves them best of all - consequently ds is a big fan

aDad · 06/10/2007 16:58

Sorry, got to go though...

michaelad · 06/10/2007 18:17

Thanks everyone! I love sprouts too...was just wondering whether the sugar thing was true. Now I just have to convince ds1. He's "the odd one out" in our family when it comes to eating sprouts
