Help! Birthday Cake ... need to make now

Oh I'm so disorganised! I need to make DS1's birthday cake now. Plan to do a homemade version of this ... www.janeasher.com/bespokeask.php?item=585

Am not sure what size to make. Having party for around 16 children and a few adults will probably hang around too. Assume the size shown is 8". I have 8" or 10" round tins. Which size should I do? And if I do a 10" sponge, can anyone advise how many eggs I ought to use?

TIA ... oven on and waiting!!

Bit late I know but use a 6,6,4, - ie 6 oz flour, 6 oz butter 6 oz sugar and 4 eggs. Bung in a bit of baking powder (make sure the tins are well lined or are non-stick) and mix everyting all together. If its a bit stiff mix in a bit of milk. Want chocolate? Add 1oz cocoapowder with the flour and reduce flour by 1oz. Or add lemon, or vanilla syrup...Bung in the tins and bake for 20 mins at 160c.

Thanks Sparkybabe ... I opted for the 10" cake size and did a victoria sponge (with cocoa powder added) ... it turned out really well and DS said it was the best birthday cake ever
