Can I make trifle with chocolate sponge?

As I was trimming yet another chocolate cake flat (for birthday cakes) it occurred to me that the trimmings would make good trifle.

Does any nice MNer have a recipe for chocolate-sponge based trifle (I was thinking cherries and brandy followed by custard and cream, maybe?)

Why not? (And I hate trifle)

Screaminglips · 02/10/2007 23:32

yes of course

Tinned cherries, kirsch, custard with grated chocolate melted into it gently, cream, voila

ooh chocolate custard with real chocolate - now there is a refinement I hadn't thought of - thanks Marina

you can

in fact i think you should

mmmmm at black forest trifle...

Yes, but not with jelly. But it will need lots and lots of cream.

Said chocolate sponge is now in the freezer, so I am planning a serious trifle next time I have enough people to justify it (rarely make truly evil puds if it is just us, as DH doesn't really eat puddings and DS doesn't like cream )

Immediately thought how nice it would be with the choc sponge drenched in tia maria.
