Peel and slice/cube apples and place in a baking dish.

For the crumble, mix 75g flour, 25g oats, and 50-75g margarine. add 1 tsp cinnamon and use fingers to mix to a breadcrumbish consisteny.
Sprinkle over the apples and bake for 40 mins at 160.

3oz butter, 3oz plain flour, 2oz demerara sugar, 1oz oats, wizz it all in the mixer until it looks like crumble put in dish on top of sliced apples, cook 180 degrees for 35 mins. This is the only desert I make on a regular basis, I don't have a sweet tooth, if you do you probably need some sugar with the apples.

Lilymaid · 01/10/2007 13:36

I think you will need some sugar in the crumble mixture (and over the apple slices) - 75 gms demerara sugar would be nice!

I love crumble

150g wholemeal plain flour
75g butter/marg (butter nicer)
75g dark brown sugar
ground cinnamon (to taste, teaspoon)

Either rub in fat to flour by hand then add sugar, or lazy way and blitz everything in the food mixer until it looks like bread crumbs.

MaeWest · 01/10/2007 13:37

I don't usually add sugar with the apples, but would with rhubarb.

shrooms · 01/10/2007 13:41

Woopsie - sorry about that. I'd deffo use about 75g sugar. And this from a so called dedicated sweet tooth!

MaryAnnSingletomb · 01/10/2007 13:44

oh yum - thank you - would you put a few cloves in ?
and I must have custard....

Twiglett · 01/10/2007 13:45

wanting to change your mind from crumble to either strudel or spicey muffins

TheMaskedPosTERROR · 01/10/2007 13:48

oh yes - I had strudel last night ... heaven!

MaryAnnSingletomb · 01/10/2007 14:59

it's got to be something squishy and crumbly I think, though love strudel...

lulu25 · 01/10/2007 15:02

hijack - twiglett, have you got a recipe for said spicy muffins?

MaryAnnSingletomb · 01/10/2007 15:33

I think that hippipotami has a recipe for something Dutch and apply and fried which sounds delicious

Apple Spice
9 - 11 oz SR flour (really doesn't matter if accurate)
1/2 tsp salt
4 - 6 oz granulated sugar (I do 6)
1.5 tsp mixed spice
optional add about 3 oz raisins or chopped walnuts
mix together

1 large egg
5fl oz milk
3 fl oz veg oil
6oz bramley apples finely chopped
mix together

mix wet into dry (till just mixed, don't overstir)
180 degrees (pre-heated)
20-25 mins for muffin sized
15 mins for fairy cake sized

to wet ingredients
