Home smoking for salmon

Has anyone smoked their own salmon. I really fancy doing this, but cant justify buying a smoker. Is it possible to do it in a bbq, or stovetop? How long does it keep? How long does it take to make? Thanks, all information welcome.

saw jamie do this last week with a biscuit tin, with holes punched in it. filled it with wood shavings. think he must have had some kind of rack inside, with the salmon on it. only took about 5 mins. maybe check out his website (jamie at home, the programme is called). sorry i can't quite remember but it did look perfectly simple

I've done trout in a wok, over jasmine tea leaves. Put the fish on a rack and get a lid for the wok or a lot of al-foil.

can you get to Golder's Green? They really do it best there.
