Does anyone here have a deep fat fryer?

DH is desperate to get one and thinks we'll embark on a varied and regular menu of tempura this that and the other. I reckon we'll only cook chips in it and once every blue moon.

What do you cook in yours?

This thread is quite old, but if you’re here looking for a fryer to cook tempura, chips and much more to perfection, we’ve recently updated our best deep fat fryer page with plenty of great Mumsnetter-approved options. We hope you find it helpful.

My mum had one when we were kids. She used to make fantastic chips every couple of weeks. The only other think I remember her making was apple fritters - yum! But it certainly didn't get a lot of use.

Chips

SuperMonkey · 29/09/2007 20:30

Chips.

And fish.

But they are very very nice

We had one that we used once a week for about a month, then every 6 months for a year and then never. Mostly chips. I would agree with you I'm afraid.

chips had some tonight with fillet steak - yum

the best chips in the world, dont make anything else cos its too messy and takes ages to clean, anything with a batter is jsut a nightmare

No way would I have one in the house (though dh and the kids would probably love it). My MIL genuinely could not comprehend why I didn't want one as a wedding present. Let's just say I have no desire to end up obese and with high cholesterol... plus the whole house stinks of grease when you use them...

Pennies · 29/09/2007 20:33

KTP - my thoughts exactly! But as I do love whitebait it would be nice just for that occasionally!

Couldn't you just find a fish& chip shop that sells it?

SuperMonkey · 29/09/2007 20:34

The chips are the best in the world though - far better than chip shop ones.

pointydog · 29/09/2007 20:38

my mum just had a particular pot that she used for deep frying. Couldn't you get a cheapish frying pot and see how often you use it before getting anything special?

cluelessnchaos · 29/09/2007 20:40

House doesnt smell of grease if you keep it clean and only use it occasionaly. Dont want to eat chips all the time but when I do I want the best chips I can make.
