Favorite sandwich fillings

I'm a massive sandwhich fan and i'll put pretty much anything between 2 slices of bread but I've just been thinking that maybe there are some great sandwhich fillings that have never occured to me and I would have to think I'm missing out on a great sandwhich so what are your favourite sandwhich fillings?

For me nothing beats a bacon and cheese sandwhich with brown sauce but that is definitely a treat. For more of an everyday sandwhich it has to be tuna and cucumber.

Egg crunch - an egg mayo with chunks of pepper

Philadelphia cream cheese and sweet chilli sauce open sandwich

caringcarer · 10/07/2020 00:14

Toasted sandwich of goats cheese and grapes.

Nachonacho · 10/07/2020 00:37

Tuna, cheese and jalapeño- preferably as a toasted sandwich!

thisstooshallpass · 10/07/2020 07:27

Loving this post 😍

Tuna cheese and jalepeño is inspired!

Not a fan of strawberry jam so those ones won't make the cut but I might substitue it for raspberry jam

I was just thinking this morning that chips, bacon and egg would be a nice sandwich and now I see that something similar has already been suggested.

I remembered last night that I had rice pudding sanwiches once as a child when my grandma mixed up the bowls of tuna mayo and rice pudding. Maybe some of you sandwich lovers might want to give it a go.

I normally go for egg mayo. Not a great sandwich eater but one fave is Marks' egg and tomato with salad cream though I actually prefer no goop normally.

I di have a lovely sandwich at work once. Just cheddar in white bread with a hard crust. no pickle or other gloop and I really enjoyed it.

The one sandwich I really hate is the cheese/two cheese or cheese with onion which is so gloopy you could squeeze it out!

I used to have a thing about cheese and onion sandwiches (no gloop). Still have a thing for crisp sandwiches. Have to be prawn cocktail though.

Ham and banana in wholemeal bread - mmm!

MadamShazam · 10/07/2020 20:14

Crispy bacon and egg mayo on thick slices of granary bread.Smile

Carrotcakeforbreakfast · 10/07/2020 22:19

Really, really mature cheddar. M&S do a nice cornish one. With cucumber and garlic salt.

Or

Fish fingers, crushed peas with a ridiculous amount of salt and vinegar.

CupCupGoose · 10/07/2020 22:23

My fav everyday sandwiche is tuna but my ultimate sandwich is my 'Christmas sandwich'.

So it's pigs in blankets, (or just normal bacon and sausage) stuffing, cranberry sauce, chicken or turkey and then I make up a tiny amount of really really thick (almost spreadable) instant gravy. Delicious.

IHaveBrilloHair · 10/07/2020 22:38

Do you put in a moist maker?

guineapig1 · 10/07/2020 22:58

For work I normally rotate:

  1. Egg mayo with/without lettuce/rocket
  2. Tuna mayo with red onion/radish or sweetcorn
  3. Grated carrot with hummus.

At weekends I enjoy a brioche roll stuffed with thinly sliced fried potatoes and a runny fried egg. Avocado/streaky bacon/brown sauce optional!!

I also like a “breakfast” sandwich of very fresh bread (bakery or homemade rather than supermarket stuff) and proper butter with a chilled slice nectarine. Preferably a white flesh one. DH considers this very odd. The DC are yet to be convinced either!

Hillbillyhotel · 10/07/2020 23:24

Garlic sausage and tomato, now my DC’s favourite too.

Tuna and salad cream but only if someone’s making it for me and I don’t have to drain the tuna Envy not envy!

Rosieredapples · 10/07/2020 23:54

Got to be Mature cheddar, apple and celery with a bit of mayo, or halloumi avocado grilled peppers and chilli jam.

midsomermurderess · 17/07/2020 23:27

Coronation chicken.

meg70 · 18/07/2020 09:38

Coronation chicken?

midsomermurderess · 18/07/2020 10:04

Coronation chicken Smile

Myshitisreal · 20/07/2020 05:39

@dreamersandwishes

Did it have chopped onion in also?
. We used to call this mock crab in the 80s 🤷‍♂️ never heard of anyone else eating it 😂

Chicchicchicchiclana · 20/07/2020 06:03

I really like smoked salmon with lemon and black pepper on thin, buttered brown bread.

Also, proper crab. Must be chilled.

Prawns and home made marie rose sauce with a little kick in it from horseradish plus crunchy lettuce.

Fish fingers and tartare sauce and ketchup on lightly toasted sourdough.

Rare roast beef and french mustard on heavily buttered baguette or white bloomer.

Sausage sandwich, always with brown sauce.

RegalRags · 20/07/2020 06:03

Corned beef, red onion, mature cheddar and chutney

Really good ham, cheddar, chutney, red onion, tomato and cucumber

Brie, bacon, rocket, cranberry or chilli jam

Bacon, egg and black pudding

Falafel, halloumi, chilli jam and rocket

These are my go to sandwiches.

I HATE mayo Confused

RegalRags · 20/07/2020 06:06

Although the greatest sandwich is only eaten once a year, the Christmas sandwich

Rare roast beef/ turkey
Pigs in blankets
Stuffing
Roast potato (controversial?)
Cranberry
Bread sauce
Gravy
Really decent white bread or sourdough

meg70 · 20/07/2020 12:58

@midsomermurderess weird we posted at same time, I didn't see yours! Coronation chicken is old fashioned but so good if home made. I also like egg mayo with bacon, chicken bacon and avocado, pastrami with gherkin. Ikea sell a mustard and dill mayonnaise that's perfect in beef sarnies.

meg70 · 20/07/2020 13:00

On toast if that's allowed here....mix together tuna, grated cheese and diced tomato with a splash of worcs sauce then grill. So good!

THIS ! One of the BEST parts of Christmas, I often make all of the above for sandwiches (rather than the roast itself) as I often work all / part of the festive season.

FredaFrogspawn · 21/07/2020 08:00

You can buy crustless bread. Just occasionally, I make a plate of finger sandwiches like you get with a posh cream tea - cucumber, smoked salmon and cream cheese etc. And just enjoy.
