How long will a sponge cake with ready to roll fondant icing keep?

I need to make 2 identical birthday cakes, one for the family celebration at home and one for the party at nursery 2 days later. Can I make them both the day before the family party, or do I need to make the one for the nursery nearer the time?

Make them both at the same time, they will keep for longer with icing on, air tight box, will be fine for roughly 5 days depending on warmth of storage etc, a fridge can help.

Did you also know that you can freeze sponge cakes? I do this if I am pushed, but freeze in clingfilm, a few layers, defrost in the fridge tho'.

Hope this helps

Thank you, that is very helpful - I was hoping the icing would do the trick. Great tip about freezing, as well.
