Where can I buy some flour online without amazon charging £12+ per packet??

Pasta flour is a finer grade (00) than plain and other flour.

Chasingsquirrels · 21/03/2020 17:07

The mill at the top of my road is taking orders, don't suppose that reallt helps you though.

ACertainSupermarket · 21/03/2020 17:16

PLEASE don't go trawling the shops, potentially shedding or acquiring virus, just for flour .
Can you really not live without it until your next main shop?
It will be back in stock by then.

dementedpixie · 21/03/2020 18:05

Will it? I've not seen it for a few weeks

MrsL2016 · 21/03/2020 18:10

I have had flour on my shopping list for weeks as they haven't had any in my aldi for that long. I use it weekly for pancakes and Yorkshire puddings. I friend got me some from her corner shop in the end. Plus some eggs from her local farm shop as I couldn't get those either.

Pentium85 · 21/03/2020 20:26

@ACertainSupermarket

I'm not trawling any shops, in fact I specifically asked for online recommendations.

But if I do wish to go to my local farm shop, and purchase necessary goods, whilst always remaining a safe distance from others, then I am perfectly reasonable in doing so.

I've got some coconut flour. Presumably that's only useful for adding bulk to cakes or whatever?

midlifecrash

Thank you for the recipe link.
I'll give those a go; they sound tasty Smile

BlackForestCake · 22/03/2020 20:13

It puzzled me that people were panic buying flour when there was still plenty of bread in the shops.

People making their own pasta would be an answer, but I am not convinced. Maybe middle class working from home types are taking the chance to make some pasta, but everyone?

LaMarschallin · 23/03/2020 09:21

Perhaps because flour is more convenient to keep and lasts longer. Bread will go mouldy if not frozen, and it's bulky to freeze.

INeedNewShoes · 23/03/2020 09:29

Yep. It's a pain. I make my own bread as I can't eat shop bought bread due to allergies and now I am struggling to buy flour. People are selling single bags on ebay for £10!

I just hope all this food that people are buying that is not part of their usual shopping doesn't all end up going to waste.

SayNotoArtificialLipids · 23/03/2020 09:47

I make my own bread too and I can't get flour either. I love baking as I find it therapeutic.

pollysproggle · 23/03/2020 10:07

I actually have loads of flour (baking business now closed) and have been selling bags for £1 to neighbours etc.
I'm in London so I suppose that's no help to you but my husband has ordered some 00, 2x 5kg bags for £16 ish from an Italian food wholesalers online called Naturalli I believe.
They have lots of tin tomatoes and pasta too but it's bulk buy normally for restaurants.
We have a bread machine and pizza oven so we'll use that much flour. Depends on your needs but worth a look and perhaps you could share a delivery with someone else?

maddy68 · 23/03/2020 11:53

Self raising flour was in farmfoods

MoonlightMistletoe · 23/03/2020 13:04

Don't know about online however I managed to get some from my local corner shop last week.

TroysMammy · 23/03/2020 18:36

My DM has been moaning for weeks that there was no SR flour in Tesco. Out of the goodness of my heart I gave her a 1.5kg unopened bag of SR flour I had at home. Only for her to then tell me she had half a bag herself but didn't want to run out. This was after I'd made her a cake for Mother's Day. So I've got hardly any SR flour and no fucking cake!

Pentium85 · 23/03/2020 19:55

@pollysproggle

Thanks so much!
Bulk buying sounds like a great idea and I can then distribute to any vulnerable people or those in need!

I'm in Ireland and have struggled to get flour, especially the strong white kind for making bread. Almost everything else is available, just not flour. I only managed to get some at all because a friend who works in our local supermarket tipped me off when the delivery was due.

Noodlenosefraggle · 23/03/2020 20:13

Do you need strong flour to make bread? I have lots of chappati flour and am cultivating a sourdough starter but I'm wondering whether it will be a waste of time unless I can get bread flour.

drspouse · 23/03/2020 21:38

Chapati flour makes great bread. I like this recipe

PutColinInTheCorner · 23/03/2020 21:45

I ordered bread flour over a week ago directly from 2 different mills. One order is arriving tomorrow, haven't heard anything from the other one. Neither are now accepting any orders, so until backlogs have been cleared, I suspect it's going to be difficult to find. Ocado had some in stock yesterday, but didn't have any delivery slots Grin

ILikeyourHairyHands · 23/03/2020 22:10

We bake our own bread, a bakery in town was selling off its flour as it had to close. Maybe see if there's anywhere locally doing similar.

Noodlenosefraggle · 23/03/2020 23:04

Thanks drspouse. I'll try that once my sourdough starter has matured!

Noodlenosefraggle · 23/03/2020 23:06

Did anyone see the Jamie Oliver programme where he made pasta from fl our and water in about 2 minutes? I have pasta but I might try that! Think it was just normal plain flour

ScienceNut · 23/03/2020 23:08

Coconut flour is fairly low carb.
