Where can I buy some flour online without amazon charging £12+ per packet??

Good luck, that’s all I can say.
I haven’t found a single website with flour if any description in stock.

Flour is like the holy grail at the moment honestly I didn't know people really baked that much!

whitetoblerone · 21/03/2020 11:38

I get the impression people are stockpiling flour to make their own pasta!

sadie9 · 21/03/2020 11:41

Calm down folks. In Ireland we are about 2 weeks ahead of the UK. Everyone has calmed down and there is plenty of food in the shops and no one is panic buying anymore. Plenty of fresh bread, flour, loo rolls, meat etc etc.

willowpatterns · 21/03/2020 11:44

They don't. They just bought it because everyone else was. I predict that a lot of people will be chucking out-of-date flour away in due course.

Pentium85 · 21/03/2020 11:50

Got really excited there seeing I had a few notifications... alas not! Grin
Will keep trying my local farm shop! The only flour I can find is coconut but what the hell you do with that I don't know

@willowpatterns
That's what I'm most surprised about - why buy things you don't use at least on a fortnightly basis? Maybe they think because the kids are home they need baking ingredients - I thought all those cake mix in a box things would sell out first

Pentium85 · 21/03/2020 11:51

And it's definitely to make Pasta as that was my plan!

@Pentium85
Coconut flour?! Never heard of that one - pretty sure I've never seen that in any of my Mary Berry cookbooks! 🤣

Pentium85 · 21/03/2020 11:58

Apparently coconut flour is a thing!

No idea, coconut loaf cake maybe? Who knows.

I got a large sack direct from the mill (15kg for £21) because I make my own bread. It might be worth googling local mills and see if anyone can deliver?

itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted · 21/03/2020 12:12

I have visions of everyone hunting around in the loft for the pasta making machine that was an unwanted Xmas present from 5 years ago!

frostedviolets · 21/03/2020 12:43

Ah, coconut flour.
It’s good stuff actually, you need to use less of it than you would regular flour otherwise it becomes very heavy though.

frostedviolets · 21/03/2020 12:44

I don’t think you can use coconut flour to make pasta though.
I used it to make cakes ages ago.

dementedpixie · 21/03/2020 12:45

I've not seen any flour in the shops either. Might find pasta in local corner shops.

drspouse · 21/03/2020 12:46

I've ordered some from the watermill my local health food shop orders from.

maddy68 · 21/03/2020 12:46

Farm foods had some yesterday

sewingsinger · 21/03/2020 12:47

My local Waitrose had flour yesterday but I guess it's just about being there at the right time.

Do you have a mill near you? Farm shops are another good option.

itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted · 21/03/2020 13:24

Random question but does coconut flour make whatever you are using it in taste more.....coconutty?? 🥥

willowpatterns · 21/03/2020 14:19

Coconut flour sounds just the thing for making fruit crumble topping Smile

LaMarschallin · 21/03/2020 15:34

Is it possible to use breadcrumbs in place of flour for things like dumplings?

drspouse · 21/03/2020 15:42

The flour in breadcrumbs is already cooked, so no.

LaMarschallin · 21/03/2020 15:46

I take your point.

I thought possibly if I used some baking powder, it might work.

Back to the drawing board Smile

Pentium85 · 21/03/2020 15:49

Local mills are good suggestions! Live in the middle of nowhere so there must be a local farm shop also

drspouse · 21/03/2020 16:54

No, when you cook flour the gluten changes, it's nothing to do with rising.
