Yes I'm talking about that black stuff. I love it, but haven't really eaten it since my own childhood - until today when ds bought some by mistake. All my dc hate the stuff.

I seem to remember it is quite nutritious. Is it? In what way? Any one know what licorice is made from and why people stop eating it past childhood, although continue with chocolate?

it is good for digestion and ibs sufferers often have it, you want to buy the panda ones in health food shop though as they have no suger and real liquoice extract not cheapo flavourings

I think that licorice can be linked to high blood pressure ! lovely stuff though - I used to love chewing the twigs of real licorice

southeastastra · 10/09/2007 19:07

isn't it a laxative if too much is consumed?

ELR · 10/09/2007 19:10

Not much help to the OP but I absolutely adore liquorice cream rock - Haribo do a fab version of it and I have been known on more than one occasion to eat an entire bag in one go - don't recall any laxative effects though

Elasticwoman · 11/09/2007 13:36

Never heard of licorice cream rock! What about the licorice you can buy at the pharmacist?

Cant stand the stuff. However, remember having licorice sticks (literally wood sticks of the stuff) so must come from some plant.

You just chewed on the twigs.
