My friends 8 year old dd doesn't like cake. So for her birthday her mum would like to buy/put together a biscuit type affair. She doesn't want to cook/bake but is happy to buy or build something.

Any ideas ??????

Who was talking today about chocolate digestives sandwiched together with Nutella? I'm thinking something like that - though it would take a lot of biscuits to make a birthday cake sized creation. Maybe stack up all different kinds of biscuits and sweets in a pyramid shape and stick some candles on the top with icing?

Does she not like any kind of cake? Meringue? Fruit flan? Cheesecake? What about an ice-cream type dessert like a Viennetta with candles in it?

Another thought - I know she doesn't want to cook but a friend of mine used to ice Rich Tea biscuits for all the children in her son's class when it was his birthday. She used those little icing pen squeezy tube things, iced the child's name in the middle, and did a little decorative border round the edge. The kids were always thrilled to bits - didn't seem to notice it was just a Rich Tea biscuit!

The obvious idea is that one where you crush biscuits & mix the bits with sugar & cocoa & melted butter & chocolate & raisins (& a bit of alcohol - whisky is good - usually, but not suitable here) & chill it in a loaf baking pan. It slices much like a cake. Chocolate cookie cake, usually known as.

Or is that too like a cake, or melting stuff too much like cooking?

Can locate recipe if it sounds like the right lines.

The new Kinder hippos sat on choccy biscuits look like hippos wallowing in muddy puddles

Milletts/Millies (?!?! I can't remember - oh pants) do a giant cookie for approx £10 and you choose the wording, the type of choc chips etc. and the flavour of the icing.

When I went on mat leave we had a raspberry and white choc cookie (9/12 inches across) and 3 flavours of icing with a personal message - serious sugar rush but blooming brilliant, it will stretch miles with kiddies

Millies Cookies

libb, thanks so much. My friend likes that one !!! Her dd loves icing. She will phone Millies in the morning, there is one not to far from here.

Thank you so much

If you have a look at the Australian Women's Weekly "All-time favourites cookbook" they have a "recipe" for a little house you can build out of biscuits - basically you build a house shape and then stick biscuits on with icing - I'm sure you could adapt this to whatever biscuits she liked the best.

What about a Chocolate Trifle - I think Delia has a Cheat's Chocolate Trifle (no cooking)

geogteach · 01/10/2004 19:19

I have done a pyramid of choc rice crispies in milk and white choc and iced for my DS who doesn't do cake, everyone seemed to love it, can't stand them myself!
