Not sure about big cakes but something I've seen done which looked lovely was lots of fairy cakes staked together - iced in lovely pale pink for a girl (or blue for boy presumably!!!). V lovely indeed! I've got Nigella's basic cupcake recipe if you want me to post that but I'm sure someone will have ideas for a "proper" big cake!

Good luck - think you are v brave, afraid I enlisted M&S for DD's christening cake!

I always seem to get these ideas AFTER my own event!!!! Still there may always be another time ....!!

I did a version of the cupcake thing - made lots of really small cakes (the mini-muffin sized cases) & iced some in white & some in blue. I then got a flat box to put them in & spelt out ds's name with the blue ones, surrounded by the white ones.

It was a very informal affair though - celebratory party rather than official christening, so suited the occasion. I was however making cakes for a couple of weeks before hand & freezing them, then spent the night before the party icing them all (with the help of my mum for that!)
