BLW at 20 weeks? Help!

Hi my DS is 20 weeks and has begun waking a lot more. The HV's advised starting starting solids, baby rice, butternut squash etc. My DS watches my every mouthful and grabs my food/cup so I also feel he's probably ready for something else. I dutifully went out and bought icecube trays and Annabel Karmel's book and began but am so disappointed. I have loved breastfeeding exclusively til this, partially because it's been so baby led and he loves it. Now I feel like I'm shovelling food down his throat and he's not in control anymore. Then I heard about BLW... is it too soon to start with him? Is it ok to give him baby rice and also do BLW? If so has anyone else done this at such an early stage and if so... what did you try first? Would really appreciate some advice. Is there a good book out there?

Just a quick post, but I started DS at 23 weeks. He had broccoli and sweet potato chips and we've never looked back.

Ive never read a book on it but i guess thats how i weaned all of mine. All 4 weaned differently. I just gave baby rice to begin with, ds1 had only this for weeks. dd1 never ate this and literally had 3 meals a day from the moment i started weaning! I would just take it as ds pace. Start with rice and progress with how you both feel happy.

What did you do? Just steam them til soft?

maybe post this on the weaning board.
DD was about 5 1/2 months when I started blw. Basically the trick is to give big things they can chew or suck, but basically anything that they can pick up. I also cheated and gave some purees etc in the early days because she was so hungry.
blw things that worked for us:
croissant, banana, pasta, very soft steamed veg, cheese sticks. If you post this on the right board, sure Aitch will come along and help you out. My mind's a blank
