...just seen an advert for it - saying it was good (obviously) as in healthy and releases energy slowly...any comments ?

can't quite get my head around eating it myself - didn't like it as a child but am thinking maybe I might now

um no its basically fat and sugar.

MIL used to buy a pot for DD whenever we visited and then insist I take the remainder home. I would eat it straight out of the pot.

fat sugar and irresistable.

chocolatemummy · 29/08/2007 19:47

personally I think it quite nice and my daughter loves nutella sandiwiches, There are definately worse things kids eat today

UCM · 29/08/2007 19:47

I nearly fell of the floor when SIL gave it to DS on toast whilst we were staying, but having checked the ingredients, it's not that bad.

Moondog will be along soon to tell me that it's Hazelnut vaginas

chipmonkey · 29/08/2007 19:51

Nutella goooooooooood! But am preggars and very hungry!

Othersideofthechannel · 29/08/2007 19:52

It is basically fat and sugar but kids do need some fat and sugar in their diet. I'm just not sure DH should be eating it everyday for breakfast

policywonk · 29/08/2007 19:56

Can't see how it can possibly be healthy, unless they're basing their entire 'slow release of energy' claim on its 5 per cent nut content. Also, it is as addictive as crack. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if there is some crack in it. I literally can't have it in the house, or I end up shovelling it down my throat with a tablespoon.

littlerach · 29/08/2007 19:58

But whilst I love it out of the jar, I cannot bear it on bread, not even toast.

My faddy faddy youngest loves it (naturally!) so I use a tiny smidgen of it to disguise peanut butter.

I love it though.

CorrieDale · 29/08/2007 20:04

It's made by Nestle so definitely bad. Hotel Chocolat do one that is sublime. Great for my skinny and superactive DS, Not so great for his fatty momma.

UCM · 29/08/2007 20:05

Well this was a couple of weeks ago and to this day it's still unopened. Maybe a fad? But, if it gets DS to eat toast in the morning, I wouldn't complain.

Ceolas · 29/08/2007 20:05

Ingredients:

"sugar, vegetable oils, hazelnuts (13%), fat-reduced cocoa powder, skimmed milk powder (6.6%), whey powder, emulsifier, flavouring "

Wikipedia says 50/50 fat/sugar.

2 of my children love it. the other is allergic to milk

Ceolas · 29/08/2007 20:06

Isn't it made by Ferrero? They're not Nestle are they?

Tinker · 29/08/2007 20:11

Not sure Nestle do own it - see here

Anyway it's Italian food, how could it possibly be bad for you?

MaryAnnSingleton · 29/08/2007 21:08

mmm, will look at it tomorrow at Sainsbury's

Nutella on Rich Tea biscuits - Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

nutcracker · 29/08/2007 21:17

Blimey that is weird, I saw the ad too, and thought that I must post on mn later and see if they thought it was really good or bad.

MaryAnnSingleton · 29/08/2007 21:20

it's funny - I thought immediately of mumsnet !
Didn't they used to sell it in glasses that you could keep afterwards ? I can't get my head around putting chocolatey stuff on bread for some reason.

OP posts:
Othersideofthechannel · 29/08/2007 21:22

You can still get it in the glasses you can keep over here.
They're very sturdy. With the exception of wine glasses, we only have 4 matching glasses and they are Nutella glasses.

fick · 29/08/2007 21:23

There are good fats and good sugars. Who knows....perhaps they can label food as well as they label formula and we'll know.

paolosgirl · 29/08/2007 21:24

Delicious! We've recently started buying it, and it comes in dinky little glasses, so yummy AND practicel

pyjamaqueen · 29/08/2007 21:24

My kids love Nutella. But I buy Green & Blacks which they are equally keen on and I feel better about giving them. (No free glasses though!)

paolosgirl · 29/08/2007 21:24

practical - sp. awful tonight

EmsMum · 29/08/2007 21:24

Yes, most of our glasses are Nutella courtesy of MIL. I kept the lids too, they are quite handy for keeping half a can of something in the fridge
