how much cake batter for 12 muffin sized fairy cakes? 4442, or 6663?

And how full do I fill cases? 2/3ish? 1/2?

Tis a whilce since I made anything smaller than a victoria sponge...

I have my weighing scales waiting...

It'll be the 4442 cos I just did 6663 and made 18.

1/2 should be fine!

SlightlyMadShockwave · 28/08/2007 18:31

I was gonna make 18 actually - but I have to cook the first 12 as I only have 1 tin....will the rest of the batter be all right on the side while the first cook?

OK....how long do I cook for? 20mins too long?

Mine took about 15mins and yes the batter will be fine on the side (as long as you exercise great restraint and don't eat it raw.........yum!!!!!!!!!)

You'll have done these already by now -
but we've just had a fest of using up fairy cake packet mixes (seeing just how elaborately differently we can flavour them all - lime was specially good) and I was amazed that really only a scant 2 teaspoonfuls of batter in each muffin-tin case made nice big well-risen cakes.

MarsLady · 28/08/2007 19:21

Bink..... it's so easy to make the batter up yourself. Just as quick as those packets and much bigger and nicer cakes.

Just remember

6 s/r flour
6 marg
6 sugar
3 eggs

Then flavour at will.

Well you were too late....so just for the record (and archives) I did 6663 and made 18 (as you said)....well risen, batter survived on the side and they took 13-15mins to cook

(oh and red and blue food colouring in yellow cake batter makes muddy brown mess - which I suspected but thought was worth a try ).

Well done! Maybe go for better colour combo next time

SlightlyMadShockwave · 28/08/2007 21:48

I would have done but DTD1 likes pink and DTD2 is obsessed with purple. Once I had done pink I had to try purple....there was no going back
