Ideas needed for after school snacks

blossomhill · 28/09/2004 17:38

Dd and Ds have school dinners and really do not want dinner when they come home. I have been giving them things like boiled egg and soldiers, cheese on toast, soup and bread, sandwiches and little pizzas. I would be really grateful if anyone could give me anymore ideas. I am racking my brains and cannot think of anything else.
Thanks in advance

Eggy bread? Baked potatoes with various fillings?

bundle · 28/09/2004 17:47

eggy bread is big in our house, specially with cheese added into eggy mixture. what about mini quiches, done in those little tiny flan cases, you could freeze some. home made fish/chicken dipper things (rolled in egg then dipped into crushed cornflakes, then grilled/fried).

Garlic bread, rice or pasta salad, small jacket potato & tuna or cheese.............

How about a plate with strips of pitta bread, dollops of tarama salata/houmos, baby bells, cherry tomatoes, cucumber, carrot sticks etc. We do this for dinner sometimes when cooking isn't an option.

Pitta bread, homous and cucumber go down well here too.

Small bowl of pasta with pesto or tortellini with sauce.

Toasted sandwiches.

Thanks. Some great ideas already

Help! can u take paracetamol during the 1st trimester

KateandtheGirls · 28/09/2004 18:02

If it's just a snack inbetween lunch at school and dinner/supper at home, does it have to be so elaborate?

My girls' favourite snacks are:

yogurt
applesauce
cheese
red peppers
Cheerios
raisins
crackers
pretzels

KateandtheGirls · 28/09/2004 18:02

Enchanted, I think you have the wrong thread, but I believe the answer is yes.

Enchanted · 28/09/2004 18:05

Tamks Kateandthegirls! I didn't have the wronge thread, I just needed an active conversation. Anyone know for sure as the packet says no?
Got a coollegue with a whopper headache

Sorry about the spelling typing in a hurry!

blossomhill · 28/09/2004 18:06

Kateandthegirls - thanks for that. It is actually like a dinner but as they eat a dinner at school they are not interested in a dinner after school. I decided that as long as they eat something healthy after school I am happy. Hence the things on toast and snack type things. At least I know they will eat it . if I put a dinner infront of them they just don't want to know!

I took it when pregnant. Aspirin is NOT OK though.

Blu · 28/09/2004 18:17

Blossomhill: omlette, hot-dog, pancakes.

Enchanted: you can take paracetamol at any time in pregnancy.

LunarSea · 28/09/2004 18:20

lol - I just read "Help! can u take paracetamol during the 1st trimester" followed by what looked to be the answer "If it's just a snack inbetween lunch at school and dinner/supper at home"

KateandtheGirls · 28/09/2004 18:23

I like a nice paracetemol snack myself.

aloha · 28/09/2004 18:29

Scrambled egg, pasta salad, slices of quiche
