Sides for Lamb Shawarma

Impatientwino · 28/11/2019 08:55

Have 10 friends over on Saturday and have settled on slow cooked lamb shawarma. Not made it before but reviews online look promising! Going to serve everything buffet style and let people help themselves.

Does anyone have some good side dishes, preferably make ahead ones with a Middle Eastern vibe?

I'll do a minty garlicky yoghurt, some couscous with lemon, coriander and pomegranate. I thought maybe some flatbreads and sliced tomatoes, onion etc so people can build a wrap if they like. I have two GF guests coming so will be doing some roasted potatoes too! Smile

Wondered about a couple of salads/veggie sides and dips?

When people arrive I'm going to do some halloumi fries with some sort of dipping sauce. At least 5 of the people coming have big appetites and they always seem to hoover up everything so happy to make a fair few things!

Thank you in advance for any suggestions

roasted veg. spiced roast veg side dish delicious hot or cold. Dress with a drizzle of minty yogurt: so easy!
Make your roast potatoes by adding sliced onion while cooking then a tin of chopped tomatoes and spices towards the end? (like Bombay potatoes but differently spiced).

dip: humous, baba ganoush.

ODO thanks for the veggie side recipe - I'm going to do that one - I'm going to do in advance up to adding the chick peas and then it'll just need to finish off!

Baba ganush is a great shout, I love it!

Suggestions greatly appreciated!

Get some olives, slow roast tomatoes perhaps?

We really like the old El Paso gluten free wraps best.

I would do a really tasty flavoured wild rice dish

Also M&S do great gluten free spring rolls.

You can use the Jamie Oliver recipe (yoghurt and flour) to make gluten free flat breads

Dipping sauce - yoghurt and mint

You can make a platter so they can personalize their wraps:
Thinly cucumbers
Spiced chickpeas
Roasted julienned bell peppers
Pickled beetroot slices
Hummus with a sprinkle of sumac
Diced aubergine - can be fried and then sprinkled with ras el hanout
Diced courgettes - can be roasted or grilled with a drizzle of olive oil
Falafel
Cucumber mint yoghurt
Baba ghanoush

Salads:
Fattoush
Spiced pumpkin, chickpea and feta
Salad shirazi
