A cake maker/decorator my sister knows is making ds's christening cake, but can't decide how to have it decorated. Can anyone think of anything "boyish", and cute, but not bootees or anything like that??

We had building blocks with letters for DS1 and a train for DS2.

We had a lovely cake very simple but effective, blue icing with tiny white hearts, ds' anme in the corner on like a scroll and a small swan carrying a baby on it's back. it looked gorgeous. Sounds twee written down but it wasn't at all.

for ds2 we had a mobile with hearts and ducks hanging down with his name written in them - luckily he only has a 4 letter name!

I've made a few christening cakes and the parents have liked my favourite motif of a 'baby' made from modeling icing asleep on its tummy, wearing a bonnet and covered with a blanket. I would write the baby's name and birth date or christening date on the cake, and if the parents were religious I'd add a cross or Bible or whatever they liked. For a little girl called Jasmine, I modeled a sprig of ricepaper jasmine blossom to arch over the 'baby', for a little boy I did a stripey blue-and-white blanket and aeroplanes going round the base of the cake (his daddy was an aeroplane fanatic).

I decorated my ds christenning cake with stars..the whole cake was ivory, name in ivory and a stream of stars going around one side of the cake!
