I'm planning to attempt one for DD's birthday and might go for a 3D version. Hints, tips and pix all welcome!

Thanks

ah now we have had a thread on this, but before I go mad with the links, how old is dd going to be?

if 3 or under be aware that she will probably be utterly wowed by a round victoria sponge with candles and her age picked out on the top in smarties / chocolate buttons, and any further effort will be for your benefit alone...

[off to rummage for links]

here you go

Thanks Mrs B.

DD will be 4 and is obsessed with all things to do with fire engines. She's even on first-name terms with one of our local firemen. So, of course, a fire engine cake it has to be!

I will put a picture of the one we did on my profile.

That should come up ina minute - I think we just used a square cake (either fruit cake or sponge cake, can't remember), used marzipan then roll out red icing, use icing pens for the detail, matchmakers for the ladder, smarties for the siren, biscuits for the wheels.

You can also use butter cream (coloured) if you don't like the roll out icing)
