All the family like mince meat, but all we seem to do with it is either as a pie, or with a sauce.

What do you do with it?

Burgers are sooo easy

Mash up the mince with an egg, salt & pepper, a few herbs or nutmeg are nice in them, shape, dust with flour, grill

Meatballs the same, onl make them round

Fry them off & then add tin of tomatoes, puree, seasoning, herbs etc

Bobotie

30 ml (25g) butter
1 onion chopped fine
20ml curry
7ml salt
2ml turmeric
Juice of 1 lemon
1kg lean mince
175ml chutney
100ml white wine
50ml apricot jam
100ml milk
2 eggs
100ml fresh breadcrums

Fry onion in butter. Add curry, salt and turmeric and stir.
Add lemon juice.
Add mince and brown
Add chutney, wine and breadcrums.

Put everything in a flat dish and put apricot jam over it. Mix eggs and milk together and pour over everything.

Bake at 180degrees for 1 hour.

We do a thing we call burritos, which is chilli wrapped up in fajitas with cheese on top slightly browned off. Dh makes 'em so I can't be more specific, but it's basically a chilli con carne filling (ie spicy mince, tomatoey kidney bean concoction).

And bl**dy delicious it is too

We've just had some burger type things which is a recipe of my mum's. You mix a pound of mince with one egg, an oxo cube, 2 ounces flour and enough milk to give dropping consistency. You then put a spoonful into a frying pan on med heat and cook on both sides.

The burgers/fritters are much lighter than normal ones and the kids love them. That is the basic recipe but you can add herbs, spices, grated onion anything really.

Cottage Pie

Meatballs
Burgers
Fajhitas (Unspicy)
