jam making - plums

OK I want to make some plum jam. Do I need a preserving pan or can I use a heavy based saucepan?

When making plum jam - so I need to add the stones to help it set? How many stones - the recipies I have read vary on this. Do I need to crack them? Any tips to do this? Anything else I need to know?

Might want to look at this thread...

Arts and crafts :Does anyone else make jam?

But no, don't need special jam pan - just heavy quality. We never bother to take out stones until its being spread on the bread, so can't help you on the other query - sorry.

I beg your pardon - I am clearly in the wrong section. I will go and look at the other thread.

Maybe I will leavr the plum stones in - I am sure they must have the pectin in to help them set!
