what to do with five green peppers

Dozeynoo · 10/07/2007 10:35

Due to an amazing level of efficiency on my part I now have five green peppers in my fridge to do something with.

DS1 suggests we play a bowling game with them however I would prefer to eat them in some form.

Any ideas?

stuff them with mince, onion and herbs and some rice to add bulk,
or with rice, pine nuts and raisins then rost them with some olive oil.

make lots of fajitas!

tempted to paraphrase sam johnsons piece about cucumbers
"green peppers should be thinly sliced drizzled with good quality olive oil, sprinked with salt and black pepper and then thrown in the bin"
but
cut one up in strips to eat while you cook
cut one up in strips and give to dcs to dip into tara or humous for their tea

use them to make patatas probres.
slowly fry onion, then add sliced peppers and garlic and fry until soft. Add more oil and sliced new potatoes. Fry until pots are cooked, drain and season

the other day I stuffed some (red ramiro) peppers with mixture of :

leftover couscous
breadcrumbs
grated haloumi cheese
toasted pinenuts
jalapeno chillis

and served them with roasted monkfish, which I'd smeared with a tomato chilli goo and wrapped in courgette strips/pancetta

does any body here actually like green peppers?

Daemara · 10/07/2007 11:42

you could roast them if you have a gas burner, roast them over it, like toasting a marshmellow, then stick them in a bag while still warm so its easier to pel the skin, then put them in a jar with olive oil, garlic, basil and oregano or whatever herbs you like, will keep a whileor you could give away as a present

or you could pan fry them with some onion and add some tinned tomatoes blitze it all up and make soup or tomato pepper sauce

katelyle · 10/07/2007 11:44

Compost them and use the compost to grow something nice!

Or, if you leave them on a sunny windowsill, might they ripen into red peppers, which are delicious?

bozzaNatasha · 10/07/2007 11:48

I'd usually just stick them in soemthing I was already cooking like spag bol or curry or something. Use one in a salad I was bringing to work. Maybe roast a couple as a side veg. I do prefer red peppers but green are still OK. I made a huge pot of spag bol at the weekend and I think I used 5 smallish mixed peppers.

LoveAngel · 10/07/2007 12:54

Stuff them.

I stuff peppers with a mixture of cooked mincemeat/rice/veg or cooked rice/veg/prawns and roast in a hot oven.

Green pepper soup - even people who hate raw green peppers would be hard pushed not to like it!

chopster · 10/07/2007 14:47

deep fry them and then sprinkle with tons of salt.

or, add some cumin and mustard seeds to hot oil, when they start to pop, add the sliced peppers. Fry for 5 mins, add a tsp or two of coriander powder, fry for another couple of minutes. THen add a teaspon of chaat powder, and toss. Check for seasoning and serve - it's bloody lovely. Nice with corgettes finely sliced too.

chopster · 10/07/2007 14:48

and what is wrong with green peppers?

ELR · 10/07/2007 16:04

best option is to stuff em with savoury mince is always ok with green peppers
Bundle your recipe sounds delish!

ELR · 10/07/2007 16:05

Dozeynoo · 10/07/2007 16:36

Make vast quantities of tomato and ppper pasta sauce and freeze

moondog · 11/07/2007 09:51

Green peppers aren't so good cooked, unless done very quickly in a wok as part of a stirfry.

Thus,I would do a stirfry with two of them and with the other 3 i would blitz them with tomatoes, cucumber, onions and celery to make a gazpacho-chilled Spanish soup.

Delicious.

In fact,I have 5 green peppers in my fridge and this is exactly what i shall do meself.

nailpolish · 11/07/2007 09:54

ill have them
dd1 eats them like apples

moondog · 11/07/2007 09:56

Or chopped very very finely with same ingredients and some lime/lemon juice and cumin and/or fresh coriander as an accompaniment to curry type things and rice.
