Broad beans

Personally, I can't stand the things, but some arrived in my veggy box so I dutifully boiled them up for DD and the water went bright red - it looked like cranberry juice or blood (DH's assessment). Needless to say, I lobbed them in the bin.

Can someone please tell me if this is normal or if I have freeky beans please?

Did you take the outer shell off?

winestein · 09/07/2007 20:51

By that I mean the pod

LilRedWG · 09/07/2007 20:53

Yep, de-podded them and bunged in a saucepan. I know I can be a muppet sometimes, but seriously - it's a bean and it's beaten me!!!

lilredwg i always hated them - my mum used to make curry from the pods eek - until i discovered they are really nice with the skin off. next time just steam, peel and have cold with a bit of olive oil, garlic etc.

yep, the water does go red, no idea why. They are yummy though. They're really good in a risotto, would you fancy that?

LilRedWG · 09/07/2007 21:20

So it does go red I'll cook DD some more then. Nope, I can't eat them in anything - I don't like the texture of beans.

Thanks for the help!
