then boil the water, throw in the lentils, force yourself to watch it for the ensuing 2 until it boils, skim of white gunk, turn it down and get on with your frantically important Other Life that is too good to turn down in favour of watching lentils

I buy them ready cooked in tins

you can buy things from lakeland that rattle when the pan gets hot and stops it from boiling over, might be worth a try. Not even quite sure why you are boiling them in water - what do you do with them after?

codJane · 09/07/2007 10:19

me in tins too

You might have the gas on too high. I tend to simmer mine - start off with the water an inch above the lentils and add more when they starting bubbling/plopping

CountessDracula · 09/07/2007 11:04

put a spoon in with them
it stops boiling over
dunno how but it does work (have not tried specifically for lentils but have for other things)

when I make soup with red lentils, I don't boil them in plain water, they get simmered with whatever is in the soup. So it doesn't boil over!
