Any idea how I can do a ballet cake for my DD's birthday at the weekend?

I was thinking of making a straightforward cake with white fondant icing and fashioning a pair of ballet shoes out of play dough - what do you think?

any better ideas?

ballet shoes sounds good - here are some pictures of ballet cakes - images.google.co.uk/images?hl=en&q=ballet+cake&btnG=Search+Images&gbv=2

why don't you make 2 cakes. 1 round one square. then cut the round one in half and place on either end of the square one. (you with me so far?)
then decorate like a ballet shoe.
ta daaa!
