My veg box is arriving today too and I get so excited at the thought of it waiting for me when I get home. Looking forward to eating lots of scrummy veg tonight and as DP is away I can literally eat a plate of veg without him turning his nose up at it.

I think I'm getting globe artichokes this week - yum...

earlygirl · 08/09/2004 17:09

maudy are they light green smooth and round with leaves on long stalk things
if so they might be the wierdy veg in my box(this has been what i suspected all along)
what do i do with them
how do i make them tasty
put them in a soup last week(against the advice of my mate) and they just made it spikey YAK

Mum2girls · 08/09/2004 21:50

Agree - very exciting. I get a box every Friday, but I specify what goes into it (costs no more to do that) - must say yours does sound particularly good value tho. I usually get
peppers x 2
toms x 6
bunch of bananas
kilo of apples
kilo of pears
bag of spuds
lettuce
brocolli
cabbage or cauli

for about £18

earlygirl · 08/09/2004 21:59

earlygirl have you found your key yet??

no idea for artichoke recipe but there must be something on the net, BBC food or something like that?

KateandtheGirls · 08/09/2004 22:11

What were the weirdi veg? I'm very curious.

I would love a service like that, but I don't think we have anything like that over here.

Last year I joined a community farm which entitled me to a share of the harvest every other week. It was great getting all that organic produce straight out of the ground, but I don't think I'm going to do it again this year, for 2 reasons. 1) It's a 40 minute drive each way and you can only pick up Thursday or Sunday afternoons. 2) We ended up getting a LOT of green, leafy vegetables (kale, chard, spinach, etc.) which I can only eat so much of, and not as much more "normal" veg like broccoli.

I would get an organic veg box in a heartbeat though, if I could.

earlygirl · 08/09/2004 22:11

JJ · 08/09/2004 22:22

KatG, you might try Eat Wild for some things. Not sure if there's anything around you. We get Burt's Beef (in N AL) when we go. It's soo hard to get decent meat, isn't it?
