Supercook cochineal is artificial, it says so on the bottle, so not beetles! So food colour in the mix would be the easiest. I'm wondering if sdding dried cranberries to the mix would add a slight pink tinge though?

I think it would be fine, or you could use glace cherries chopped up small?

I wouldn't make the buns pink because when you add colouring to the mixture, the buns never look that appertising. Instead i would cover them with pink icing, much more appealing, then put a strawberry on the top

Agree - just have pink icing. Pink buns would loo weird. Also, with the yellow tinge of the butter/eggs it could go slightly orange
