Anyone except Waitrose and M&S do personalised cakes?

Need it with relatively short notice (for mid July) for dd's Christening, but can't find exactly what I want on their sites for the fruit version (planning to have unpersonalised chocolate and madeira from them, but with a personalised fruit in the middle).

Any suggestions?

Sainsburys and Tescos do photo cakes?

CantSleepWontSleep · 24/06/2007 21:23

Oh I didn't know that, but am after one iced with her name and Christening date, so wouldn't work for this occasion I guess.

do you have a Cooplands nearby - they personalise cakes. I could pipe a name a nd date if you are near Sheffield...

Heidi's Swiss Patisserie did our DDs christening cake at very short notice and it was beautiful!

(They are a national chain of bakeries)

you can print off a photo with a caption and i know asda will do it - it was £10 2 years ago.

clutteredup · 24/06/2007 21:28

What exactly do you mean by personalised, would this do? - Asda do photo cakes - you can have a photo scanned onto the cake - no need to order you just go in and get it. I did one for a birthday pary - you could put together a picture with a caption on your PC, they literally just scan whatever you have onto edible icing paper. Another supermarket does it too but I can't remember which one.

Sorry luckylady we xposted - great minds hey!!"

No Cooplands or Heidi's anywhere near us (North Herts), but thanks for suggestions.

I guess what I'm after is something like the middle top row of this page, but in fruit rather than madeira.

I do so much shopping online that I don't even think to go to local bakeries (although being in the middle of nowhere, no bakery is exactly local). Expect I could find one if I looked about though.

You are at least all confirming what I thought, in that M&S and Waitrose are the only 2 national companies that I can order from online.

our local bakeries do too

CSWS - there is a tiny shop in our nearby town that just does that kind of thing (and personalised sweets, I think). It is in a side street near the church, a few shops down from a CD shop, purple outside. Going to walk by this morning (rain permitting) so I'll check out the name.

Haven't used them myself, so no idea if they're any good.

MuffinMclay · 25/06/2007 12:24

it is these people

CantSleepWontSleep · 25/06/2007 12:24

Thanks MM. I e-mailed one local place that I found on yell.com last night, but haven't heard back, so other suggestions would still be appreciated.

Sainsburys at London Conley do birthday cakes you can even have a photo on the cake.

katelyle · 25/06/2007 12:40

If you want something like that, why not do it yourself? It's much easier than it looks, honestly!

CantSleepWontSleep · 26/06/2007 22:25

Popped to see them today Muffin - as long as I order by the weekend they'll do it, so have been googling for designs all night! Thanks for the suggestion.
