Minced lamb - 500g
Potatoes - 1kg
Large onion
Bay leaf
2 Carrots
Plain flour - 25g
Tomato puree - 1 tbsp
Butter - 25g
Milk - 4 tbsp
Lamb or beef stock - 300ml

Fry the lamb with the chopped onion, bay leaf and diced carrots for 10 minutes. Add the flour and stir for a minute. Slowly blend in the stock and tomato puree. Cook, stirring, until the mixture thickens and boils. Cover and simmer gently for 25 minutes. Remove the bayleaf and place in an ovenproof serving dish.

At the same time, cook the potatoes in boiling water for 20 minutes until tender. Drain well, mash with the butter and milk and mix well. Spread on top of the mince mixture.

Bake for 15-20 minutes in a pre-heated oven at 200C/400F (Gas Mark 6). Serve hot with green vegetables

And if your children dont like eating vegetables.. Put them all in the pie (the veg not the children!) and serve it with baked beans!

Delia does a very good one, though I leave out the leeks...

a half teas of curry powder and/or some grated cheese in the mash makes it really tasty.

Yes cheese on top is good but DS picky and won't eat cheese. Except mozzarella on pizzas - funny how they make exceptions for things they like!

minced beef is far far nice than minced lamb IMO. Also make sure to add some lea and perrins - delish!

Yes but OP asked for recipe for shepherds pie, not cottage pie.
