Quick odd lentil question

FrannyandZooey · 19/06/2007 17:35

I put some lentils on to soak yesterday and only just got around to cooking them, so they have been sitting in the hot kitchen all day and have started to sprout

I am wondering in a paranoid way whether they will still be ok to cook and eat in a shepherds pie?

in the words of my dh:

'what's to go off?'

FrannyandZooey · 19/06/2007 17:37

I know people sprout and eat lentils anyway

am just concerned they have been festering in warm water for over 24 hours

Hot kitchen? where do you live franny?

WigWamBam · 19/06/2007 17:37

They'll be fine!

Sprouted lentils are yummy, raw or cooked. Nice in stir-fries.

Cappuccino · 19/06/2007 17:38

I have never read a cookbook that says 'if you leave them for more than 24 hours you must consign them to the bin or you die'

but I am quite a new lentil weaver so maybe you need someone more experienced

Essex, franca - tis vair hot here

no Capp but....you know what I mean. The scum as I am boiling them looks a funny pinkish colour also

Thanks WWB - does it matter that they are only half sprouted? [knows this is silly q but has to ask anyway]

FrannyandZooey · 19/06/2007 18:21
