Shortbread biscuits

I wanna make some shortbread (so i can eat them all myself)None for DH.
Recipe says i gotta line tray with greasproof, do i have to do this or can i just smear butter/marge all over the tray??cos i aint got none. (love the 'proper' english?)

i would recomend you use grease proof paper or mixture gonna stick like mad and you gonnna need a spoon just to eat it out the tray lol

Darn it. Will have to get some tomorrow then. Go without tonight.
But eating off a tray with a spoon sounds ok.

if its the stuff you fridge and then slice you can probably get away with just butter if its sticky dough that you roll into little balls and then press out you probably need greaseproof

Says i mix it then cling film it then fridge for hour. Then roll out, cut into circles and bake for 15-20 minutes.

Ok doke will do that. Will have to wait til tomorrow now. Bit late. By the time you make, then chill for 1hr then bake it'll be 10pm odd. Thanks all you clever know everything ladies.

Just made vanilla shortbread today - and greased the tray and it was fine.

One thing I find with anything biscuity like this is - don't overcook them, watch them like a hawk and take them out when they look underdone, they seem to keep on cooking when you take them out, and the worst thing is a burnt offering.
