Looking at the weather my tomatoes are never going to ripen. Does anybody know of anything other than green tomato chutney that I can make?

Fried green tomatoes... yes, but how?

Make a pie. (That's what my mum did one year, it was mmmmmmmmmm)

I don't know exactly what she did, but it was sort of intuitive. Probably cut them up and stewed them with some dark sugar, some spices eg cloves, cinammon, vanilla, nutmeg, etc, probably raisins as well. Then baked them in a piecrust. I remember that she didn't need to add as much sugar as she thought she would, because they became much sweeter as they cooked.

acnebride, mine are still green too!! but there are still a couple of months before the frost...when did you plant them out btw?

meant to include that they might be green but as long as they get food and water you should have red uns soon

Fried green tomatoes. Slice them. Coat in seasoned cornmeal and then fry them. Yummy!

very late thanks for these... some of them are ripening, sort of, but these sound so good that I'm now hoping they don't all go red! especially fancy yours KatG. cheers again
