Never used a slow cooker but aren't they good for things Like stews?

Crazydazy · 12/06/2007 11:29

Yes they are.....not really the weather to buy one I guess.

I bought it with the money we received from getting married and am just thinking of things to buy with it.

Well in that case Delia's Winter Collection has loads of lovely stews in it. Pork with cider, beef and beer, a lovely slow gook chilli and lots of others. Might be worth having a look.

Get a joint of beef, seal it in a frying pan for 5 minutes, all round. Bung in the slow cooker and pour in an entire bottle of red wine. Leave on low heat for 7-8 hours.
The beef will be delicious, sooo tender - use the red wine to make a lovely gravy with mushrooms and onions. I did this last weekend when some friends came over and served it with potato gratin and green beans and it went down very well. Even the DDs liked it.

Bung a gammon or bacon joint in cover with boiling water, switch on automatic and leave for about six hours.

If you dont want it hot then remove with slotted spoon and leave to cool. Slice and serve cold.

Tis lovely and very moist.
